"Southern Flavor" was released by Bill Monroe in 1988. It is in a minor key, but the blues scale can be applied to major and minor blues.

Much like in jazz, bluegrass utilizes the blues scale to create tension in the music. Its intervals can create emotion in the listener that reflects the artists emotions and the story he/she is trying to tell. Much like jazz, bluegrass was developed during times of stress for people in Appalachia. It reflects good times and bad times, which relates directly to how jazz was created.

In "Southern Flavor", the blues scale is used to drive the range of the melody, which connects the minor chords to the major resolutions throughout the song. This is only one example of how the blues scale connects bluegrass jazz. There are countless other examples that can be found, especially since, though they sound very different, jazz and bluegrass are much more closely related than many people make think.
